Introducing one of our lovely ladies from the  40 over 40 project!

 WHAT IS YOUR OCCUPATION? I’m happily retired.

HOW OLD ARE YOU – AND WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING YOUR AGE? 64 – one of the best things about being this old is getting discounts, of course!

WHAT HARDSHIPS HAVE YOU ENDURED THAT YOU FEEL HAVE MADE YOU FEEL STRONGER? My ex husband gave me HPV when I was 24 (he had an affair, unbeknownst to me). Consequently, it became cervical cancer when I was 33. I had to have a radical hysterectomy, then 37 radiation treatments over a 7 week period.
I was diagnosed with Waldenström Macroglobulinemia (an incurable type of blood cancer) at 55 and underwent 6 months of chemo.
About the same time I had a basel cell carcinoma removed from my arm, and since then, have had 2 more skin cancers removed.
Due to the chemo and my compromised immune system, I contracted pneumonia, which lasted over 3 months and put me into the hospital.
I have a few other health issues, but I have so many places in the world that I want to see, I need to keep on living the best life that I can, while I can.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT? Having raised an independent, smart, considerate, kind, and loving daughter.
And being a member of the US military for 30 years.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF PERFECT HAPPINESS?I honestly have no idea. Nothing is perfect.

WHAT DO YOU TREASURE MOST? My family and friends, of course.

WHAT’S LEFT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? It all revolves around travel. I want to go to Antarctica so that I will have visited all 7 continents.
Travel to as many countries as I am able to. I’ve been to 38 so far and want to make it to at least 100 before I die.

WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST EXTRAVAGANCE? Retirement party at Warwick Castle in 2022.
And I’m having a 65th birthday extravaganza at Lumley Castle this year.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT YOURSELF? I hate my skin, so if I could get a whole new body of skin, that would be great.
As far as personality, I wish that I had more patience.WHAT IS A TRAIT YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF? I love to laugh and make others laugh.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR? Dying in a fire or drowning. Or with the type of cancer that I have, I could have a stroke or a heart attack.

WHAT DO YOU MOST VALUE IN YOUR FRIENDS? That my friends stay my friends, even if we live thousands of miles apart.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF? When you first start working full time (in 1980), invest in Microsoft or Starbucks. And don’t give up your virginity to an a**hole!

WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO OR FAVOURITE QUOTE? The best things in life are the people we love, the places we’ve been, and the memories we’ve made along the way.
