50 over 50 Project ~ Chapter Three ~ Alison

What do you do for a living?

I am a Civil Celebrant.  I write scripts/ceremonies for any event.

How old are you and what is the best thing about being your age?

I am 51.  I guess the best thing is not taking it to heart when someone doesn’t like you or agree with you.

What hardships have you endured that have made you feel stronger?

I think that dealing with the deaths of my best friends.  One by suicide and one by cancer.

What do you consider is your greatest achievement?

Having two children that people are genuinely pleased to see when I go out with them.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

To have a life where there are no demands, everything just works and there are no stresses.

What do you treasure the most?

Probably my husband.  We have been married for 20 years this year and together for 24 years.  He really is my best friend.  Sure we argue, but I truly value his support and selflessness.

What’s still on your bucket list?

I want to visit Petra.  All the years I lived in the Middle East I never made it to Jordan as a tourist.  Just for work!

What was your greatest extravagance?

Getting braces put on my teeth in my 40’s.  Because of my diabetes I suffered from bone loss in my upper jaw.  This in turn allowed my front teeth to move and extend.  I hated to smile but two years and more than a few thousand pounds later…. I’ll smile again!

What is the one thing you would change about yourself?

Apart from the usual, smaller butt etc, the biggest thing I’d like to change is all the self doubt I carry.

What is a trait that you are most proud of?

I work hard and am very loyal.

What is your greatest fear?

Not being able to help the people I love when they need it.

What do you most value in your friends?

I appreciate their honestly  most.  You’re not my friend if you lie to me.

What advice would you give your younger self?

If you want to do it…. Do it!  There will always be one person who thinks you’re nuts but who cares!

What is your motto or favourite quote?

Make today count!  Say a nice thing to, or even just smile, at a stranger!

Finally – How did you feel after your boudoir shoot?

I felt tickled pink – I really had a fun couple of hours.
