Meet Val – the youngest of my 50 over 50 project ladies as she’s only just turning 50 this year! Val is typical of all the ladies I’ve met so far in this project. She spends her life caring for others and has never done anything “just for her”. Having this shoot was her way of embracing a new mindset for a new decade. I think Val may well find her 50’s are her most exciting years yet. The photo below was one of her favourites – she said it captured the way she used to feel when she was much younger – relaxed, carefree – happy. I can’t wait to see what she achieves over the next few months!
The best thing about my age is discovering a new confidence, with life experiences shaping the way I look at life. I see turning 50 as a new beginning.
WHAT HARDSHIPS HAVE YOU ENDURED THAT YOU FEEL HAVE MADE YOU FEEL STRONGER?
Supporting family through illness, both palliative and with mental health. Having suffered from depression myself. I have learned invaluable life lessons. Such as my perceptions of others impressions of my character can be floored, and we have to trust in ourselves to seek validation which normally results in a positive response.
Two healthy children. Friendships that will last a lifetime.
To be with someone who loves me unconditionally
A photograph of my Nan and Grandad. They celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary, the picture captured when they were both healthy and happy together. I never fail to smile when I look at it.
Favourite thing is hard to say
My boudoir shoot, because it is solely for me, it feels indulgent. However, the best experience and worth every penny. It has reconnected me with the fun loving, carefree me before constraints of being an adult.
