50 over 50 Project ~ Chapter Two ~ No. 5 -Trish : Age 54

WHAT IS YOUR OCCUPATION? I’ve just started a new business teaching belly dance fusion to children and adults.
I also care for my autistic son and grandson full time.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING YOUR AGE? I didn’t want to be 50 it seemed so old. But here I am at 54 starting a new life and loving every minute of it.
54 is just a number it’s how I feel inside and I feel amazing, I wish I could tell my younger self that.

WHAT HARDSHIPS HAVE YOU ENDURED THAT YOU FEEL HAVE MADE YOU FEEL STRONGER? From last shoot to this, my marriage ended (long time coming). After a very long time I realised I was just accepting unacceptable behaviour for a quiet life or the life I thought I deserved and I’d been doing that my whole life with everyone.
I’m mixed race and adopted and have always felt that I don’t fit in anywhere. But my sudden found new confidence has given me the strength to realise I don’t need to rely on anyone for anything, I’m my own hero.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT? Picking myself up every time after everything and making something hopefully amazing out of a lifetime of tough situations.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF PERFECT HAPPINESS? That I don’t answer to anyone

WHAT IS YOUR MOST TREASURED POSSESSION? I have two, the little teapot my dad gave me before he passed and a dinosaur pendant … my grandson drew the picture and my daughter got it made into a pendant.

WHAT’S LEFT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? Don’t particularly have a bucket list, if it looks fun I just do it. Life is too short to ask “what if”

WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST EXTRAVAGANCE? SHOES!!! Emelda Marcos eat your heart out!!

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT YOURSELF? If I could wave a wand and it be immediate I’d like to stop overthinking things and being so flipping sensitive

WHAT IS A TRAIT YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF? That despite everything I still get up and get on with it with a smile, even if I’ve to force it.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST FEAR? What will happen to my boy when I’m gone

WHAT DO YOU MOST VALUE IN YOUR FRIENDS? They have my back no questions

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF? You are enough, you matter, the right people will love you no matter what. And most importantly LET IT GO!!
